30-year-old Coatesville man taken into custody on multiple charges
A hit-and-run accident led to driving under the influence charges for a 30-year-old Coatesville resident, police said Wednesday.
Officer Brenden M. Boyle said police responded to the 300 block of South First Avenue at 8:13 p.m. and learned that a vehicle attempting to exit a parking space on the west side of the street had struck a northbound vehicle. The collision forced the second vehicle onto an embankment adjacent to the roadway, where the driver, who was wearing a seatbelt, had to free himself from the vehicle through the passenger door, police said.
The striking vehicle was observed leaving the scene and was subsequently located in the 100 block of Chester Avenue, police said. Its driver, Lamont Greenidge, was taken into custody for driving under the influence of a controlled substance, leaving the scene of an accident, and related offenses; additional charges are pending the result of blood analysis, police said.
While on patrol Tuesday, Officer Jonathan Shave observed Dejar Jones, 18, of Coatesville, at 7:13 p.m. in the 800 block of Coates Street, police said. Jones was taken into custody on a criminal warrant for simple assault, arraigned, and released after posting 10 percent of $5,000 bail, police said.
Officer Jonathan Shave was dispatched at 2:24 a.m. Wednesday to the area of North Eighth Avenue and East Chestnut Street for a disturbance, police said. Upon arrival, he made contact with Valencia Johnson, 23, of Exton, and Hassan Dandridge, 32, of Coatesville, police said. Both admitted to striking each other while having an argument, and both were cited for harassment, police said. Dandridge was found to be under the influence of alcohol to a degree that he was an annoyance to others and was arrested for public drunkenness, police said.
On Tuesday at 6:44 p.m., Officer Stephen Galletta responded to the unit block of Palmer Avenue for a reported disturbance. The victim said that Ke’onna Randolph, 20, of Coatesville, made verbal threats and threatening gestures with a wooden bat-like object; Randolph will be cited for disorderly conduct and harassment, police said.
Cornelia Bowers, 21, of Coatesville, was arrested on April 7 by West Whiteland Police after employees of the Boscov’s Store in the Exton Square Mall allegedly watched her conceal $169 worth of merchandise and leave the store without paying, police said. She was arrested for retail theft and receiving stolen property and released to await a summons from Exton district court, police said.
Two employees of the Marshall’s Store, Shavone Bobbie Davis, 19, and Kenyetta Nokes, 42, both of Coatesville, were arrested April 12 after loss-prevention employees determined they had been working together to steal merchandise, West Whiteland Township Police said. Between March 15 and April 12, the pair completed transactions for one another, participating in practices known as “free-bagging” and “under-ringing” one another’s purchases, police said.
West Whiteland police said free-bagging occurs when a cashier places items into a shopping bag without actually ringing them up; under-ringing is the practice of charging a customer less than the ticketed price. Davis and Nokes are accused of cheating the store out of more than $300 and were arrested for theft, shoplifting, and receiving stolen property, police said. They were released to await a summons from Exton district court, police said.
