Public’s help sought to locate hit-and-run driver

 Police seeking operator of older-model, red SUV that left crash scene Saturday

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERACoatesville police are seeking the public’s help to locate the driver of an older-model, red SUV, possibly a Chevy Tahoe, which was involved in hit-and-run accident on Saturday at 1:47 p.m., Cpl. Ken Michels reported.

Police said officers arrived in the 600 block of Harmony Street at Pearle Alley and observed a black Toyota Matrix that had hit a tree and fence in the rear of a Pennsylvania Avenue residence. The Toyota driver, who was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured, said the other vehicle, operated by a black female, left the scene, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 610-384-2300.

A New York man was taken into custody on Friday about 7:30 p.m. and charged with stalking, reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident, and related offenses, Officer Kirt Guyer reported. Police said Lennart Wessberg, 32, of Oakdale, N.Y., began chasing another vehicle in the 100 block of Strode Avenue in his Ford Econoline van, ramming the other vehicle several times. The three victims, who were wearing seatbelts, were treated at Brandywine Hospital for neck and back pain, police said.

 A multi-vehicle, chain-reaction accident occurred at 9:59 a.m. Friday in the 200 block of West Lincoln Highway, Officer Brenden M. Boyle reported, adding that the occupants of four vehicles were wearing seatbelts.  Police said it appeared that the accelerator of a 2000 Jeep Cherokee got stuck, causing it to gain speed as it approached Mount Pleasant Avenue, where it struck a Nissan Rogue, which then hit a Subaru Outback, police said.  The Jeep then collided with a FedEx van, police said.  The Nissan driver was transported to Brandywine Hospital; the other drivers were treated at the scene, police said.

A white Grand Prix that was observed stopped in the middle of the intersection of East Chestnut Street and North Sixth Avenue on Sunday at 12:20 a.m. was pulled over in the 600 block of East Diamond Street, Cpl. Jeff Ingemie reported. Andrew E. McNeil, 18, of Coatesville was taken into custody after police found an open bag of marijuana in his center console, police said.

A disturbance report led officers to the unit block of South Fifth Avenue on Saturday at 2:31 p.m., Cpl. Jeffrey Ingemie and Officer David Marquette reported. When officers arrived, they made contact with the occupants of a red Audi, including Brian Drumheller, 26, of Honey Brook, who advised police that he had a permit to carry the gun in his possession.  A search revealed marijuana and drug paraphernalia in the Audi and in the possession of two of the occupants, police said. Drumheller and George Parker, 19, of Coatesville, were arrested on drug charges, police said.

Monica Mack, 42, of Coatesville, was arrested on Friday at 9:28 p.m. in the 300 block of East Lincoln Highway for a bench warrant, Officer David Marquette reported. Mack was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

A Modena man received a noise citation on Friday at 9:33 p.m. after Cpl. Jeffrey Ingemie heard loud music from more than 300 feet away coming from the red SUV of Kenneth Bireley at the intersection of South Third Avenue and Walnut Street, police said.

A Downingtown resident with music blaring from his Hyundai in the 1000 block of East Lincoln Highway on Saturday at 9:20 p.m. also received a noise citation, Cpl. Ken Michels reported.  James P. Ayala was stopped and cited, police said.

A 31-year-old Coatesville resident was charged with defiant trespass and public intoxication on Friday at 5:05 p.m., Officer Kirt Guyer reported. Amber Brown allegedly entered a property in the 100 block of Pennsylvania Avenue without authorization from the owner, police said.

Another trespassing citation was issued on Saturday at 7:16 p.m. to Marquel C. Jacobs, 21, of West Chester, Officer Sylvester Earle reported. Jacobs was accused of loitering on private property in the 600 block of Belmont Street, police said.

Terrell Butler, 28, of Coatesville, was taken into custody on Saturday at 9:16 pm. after police responded to a verbal domestic dispute in the 200 block of Fleetwood Street, Cpl. Jeffrey Ingemie reported. Police said Butler refused to leave the residence even though the victim had a protection-from-abuse order against him, police said. Police said he also had probation violations; he was taken to Chester County Prison after failing to post $10,000 cash bail, police said.

After observing a silver Hyundai Sonata make an illegal U-turn on South Sixth Avenue at East Harmony Street at 2:19 a.m. on Sunday, Officer Jonathan Shave made contact with the driver, Nadeem Rana, 37, of Beltsville, Md., police said. Rana displayed signs of intoxication, failed field sobriety tests, and was taken to Brandywine Hospital for a blood test, police said. He was arrested for driving under the influence and traffic offenses, police said.

Police were called to the unit block of North Ninth Avenue on Wednesday at 9:05 p.m. for a criminal mischief complaint, Officer David Marquette reported. Police said graffiti was painted on the north wall of Lamb Beverage.

State police from the Embreeville barracks charged a Coatesville woman with DUI and drug-possession charges after investigating a crash in Newlin Township on April 19 at 4:07 a.m., police said. Paula Jo Rucker, 43, failed field sobriety tests at the scene on Embreeville Road, east of Stargazers Road, police said.
