COATESVILLE – St. Paul’s African Methodist Church will be officially proclaimed as a landmark in the National Register of Historic Places at a ceremony held at the church on Saturday.

The church, originally established in 1864, relocated in 1874 and has been renovated throughout its years of service.

“As a community of faith St. Paul is committed to outreach; providing food and clothing to those in need, visitation to the incarcerated, and in medical and nursing facilities,” said the city’s proclamation.

After applying in October, the church received official word in December. The gathering of information and filing of the application was completed by Jean Wolf of Wolf Historic Preservation.

“The church has received recognition as an organization with a history of significant community involvement and impact,” said Reverend Lillie G. Battle.
