Kindergartners exhibit can-do attitude

Graystone Academy earns third-place finish in county contest

cans-300x249The Chester County Board of Commissioners announced the winners Thursday of the county’s Kindergartners Collect Cans Contest – honorees that included students at Graystone Academy in Coatesville.

The Graystone kindergartners were part of a three-way tie for third place with George Fox Friends School and Hillsdale Elementary. Bethany Christian School came in second behind St. Maximilian Kolbe, where 29 kindergarteners collected 1236 pounds of aluminum cans, at 42.62 pounds per student., making them the top collectors.  The two highest participation prizes went to Pope John Paul II and West Bradford Elementary.

Prizes for the contest, including a Reecie Recycle stuffed animal for each student winner and cash prizes for the top schools, were provided by the Chester County Solid Waste Authority, Penn Container, Eagle Disposal, Quality Disposal, Rapid Recycling Co., A.J. Blosenski, Dansko LLC, the Southeastern Chester County Refuse Authority, and Carosella & Assoc.
