Sobriety checkpoint a joint effort of state troopers, Coatesville officers
A sobriety checkpoint conducted by Coatesville and Pennsylvania State Police on Lincoln Highway, just east of Eighth Avenue, on Friday night into Saturday resulted in 10 drunken-driving arrests, police said.
During the operation, police made contact with 154 motorists, a news release said. In addition to the driving under the influence arrests, three people were cited for open containers, one for public drunkenness, one for possession of drug paraphernalia, and one for underage drinking, police said. Twenty-four summary traffic citations and 16 summary warning notices were issued, police said.
Coatesville police arrested Kelly Hepfl of Downingtown for public drunkenness on Saturday at 12:02 a.m. in the 800 block of East Lincoln Highway, Officer Stephen Galletta reported.
Police responded to the Elmwood Gardens apartments in the 100 block of Harlan Drive on Friday at 10:28 p.m. for an armed robbery, Officer Jonathan Shave reported. The 25-year-old victim stated that he was approached by a man with a gun who stole the victim’s car and fled toward Coates Street, police said, adding that the incident remains under investigation.
On Friday at 9:10 p.m., Officer Jonathan Shave observed a silver Honda Accord that was operating without insurance, police said. The driver, Carl London, 42, of Downingtown, refused to stop but was taken into custody after a brief pursuit, police said. He was charged with fleeing and eluding and other traffic offenses, police said.
Responding to a dispatch about shots being fired, police searched the area around the 100 block of Victoria Drive on Saturday at 1:10 a.m. with negative results, Officer Jose Colon reported.
On Saturday, Officers Jonathan Shave and Jose Colon were dispatched to South Fifth and Maple Avenues at 10:45 p.m. for a report of four men displaying handguns, police said. Cornell D. Thompson, 18, of Coatesville, and a juvenile possessed BB guns, police said. Thompson was charged with loitering, possessing an instrument of crime and disorderly conduct, and the juvenile was referred to juvenile authorities, police said.
State police from the Embreeville barracks conducted a traffic stop on April 29 at 2:07 a.m. on Lincoln Highway at Strode Avenue, police said. Terrell C. Butler, 29, of Coatesville, was determined to be under the influence of alcohol and arrested, police said.
Troopers are investigating a burglary at Harry’s Quick Stop in the 2900 block of Lincoln Highway in Sadsbury Township, state police said. Unknown actors forced entry into the business and stole a laptop, several thousand dollars in cash, 65 cigarette cartons and lottery tickets, police said.
