Giant plans to open a new gas retail outlet at the site of a closed Shell station in Thorndale.

CALN –It should be a little easier for township residents to fuel up and maybe even save a few dollars, depending where they buy their food — with a new Giant gas station replacing a closed Shell station on Lincoln Highway.

The Caln Township Board of Commissioners heard details of plans for the new gas retailer – backed by the local supermarket chain — during it’s regularly scheduling business meeting last week.

Kerry Eck, a Giant real estate representative, came before the board to discuss the latest developments in the construction of a Giant gas station at the site of the former Shell station on Lincoln Highway in Thorndale.  According to Eck, legal issues had held up construction on the gas station, but now construction will soon be underway. Shoppers at the Giant Food Store can qualify for gas discounts, no small issue in a time of rising gas prices.

The Giant gas station will feature six double-sided pumps and will sell three grades of gas.  There are no plans to allow large trucks to fuel at the station, but Eck commented that Giant is considering selling diesel gas for smaller vehicles. Eck expressed eagerness for the project’s completion and felt that the completion of the gas station would be of great benefit to the township. Giant supermarket

“The fuel facility and gas rewards is a big part of our business plan; our customers love it…and we’re certainly excited to bring it,” said Eck.

In other news, Township Manager Greg Prowant brought up suggested sites for sidewalk installation.  Principal sites included areas along N. Baily Roard in an effort to connect Ingleside Drive, Windson Lane and G.O. Carlson Boulevard.

Other business included the payment of township bills and the application for the Chester County Vision Partnership grant.
