Victim told police four young males came up behind him on N. 3rd Ave.
On Thursday at 11:15 p.m., a 46-year-old male said he was walking in the 100 block of North Third Avenue when four young black males came from behind and struck him in the head with what he believed was a gun, Officer Jonathan Shave reported. The victim said he was kicked as his cellphone and wallet were taken; he said the thieves fled westbound on Lumber and Fleetwood Streets, police said. An investigation is continuing, police said.
At 3:42 p.m. on Thursday, a 36-year-old Coatesville resident reported that his s 9mm handgun was taken from his residence in the 100 block of Wesley Lane sometime in the previous four days, Officer Paul Antonucci reported. The victim stated that it did not appear that his house was burglarized; the incident remains under investigation, police said.
A 62-year-old male told police on Thursday that an unknown person entered his residence in the unit block of South Fifth Avenue the night before and stole $1,380 worth of tools, Sgt. Steven Smith reported, adding that an investigation is ongoing.
Police were dispatched to the Chester County Intermediate Unit in the 300 block of Kersey Street for a reported assault on Thursday at 12:15 p.m., Officer Paul Antonucci reported. The 17-year-old victim, who was strangled by another student in class, suffered minor injuries but did not go to the hospital, police said. His alleged attacker, also 17, was transported to the juvenile detention center, police said.
On Thursday at 8:53 p.m., Officer Jonathan Shave conducted a traffic stop for failure to use a turning signal at South Third Avenue and East Harmony Street, police said. During the stop, officers located a large amount of marijuana in the possession of a 17-year-old, front-seat passenger, whose 5-year-old cousin was not in a proper child safety seat in the rear of the vehicle. The driver, Joseph Zaleski, 18, was cited for failing to use a turn signal and for not using an approved child seat. The 17-year-old passenger was charged with possession of marijuana, resisting arrest, and endangering the welfare of a child, police said. He was transported to the Chester County juvenile detention center, and the 5-year-old was released to his grandmother, police said.
