Brandywine Health Foundation awards scholarships to dozen students
Financial concerns should not deter students from entering the nursing profession, which will need to increase as the population ages, according to the Brandywine Health Foundation, which has announced its recent group of award recipients.
In an effort to encourage nursing careers, the foundation administers eleven nursing scholarships, established by generous individuals in the community over the last 30 years. Almost $200,000 in nursing scholarships has been awarded since the foundation’s inception 12 years ago – an amount the foundation is eager to grow. Eligibility for the scholarships requires attendance at either West Chester University’s School of Nursing, Immaculata University’s Division of Nursing, or the CAT-Brandywine School of Nursing at the Chester County Intermediate Unit. Although students in those programs can come from throughout the region, the foundation’s purpose is to encourage people committed to staying in the community to enter the nursing field.
This year the Brandywine Health Foundation would like to congratulate the following students who received awards: Alumni Association Award, Patrick Lavin (WCU); Martha and Duane Bohlayer Nursing Scholarship, Laura Huch (CAT Brandywine); Coatesville Athletic Association Scholarship, Laura Alarcon (WCU); Ethel G. Charlton Award, Bridget Phillips (WCU); Gunard Berry Carlson Recognition, Jade Proctor (WCU); Henrietta Potter Hankin Award, Bridget Phillips (WCU); James L. and Miquette M. Cox Nursing Scholarships, Laura Huch (CAT Brandywine), and Laura Alarcon, Shannon Curley, Bridget Phillips, and Jade Proctor (WCU); Margaret Barnes Award, Patrick Booth (WCU).
