Construction has begun for the new systems in Coatesville, S. Coatesville, and Parkesburg
Pennsylvania American Water will install nearly 4,100 feet of new water lines and 700 feet of sewer main lines.
COATESVILLE, Pa. – Pennsylvania American Water announced today the start of construction to install new water and sewer main in the City of Coatesville, South Coatesville Borough and Parkesburg Borough.
Nearly 4,100 feet of new water lines and 700 feet of sewer main will be installed, at a combined cost of approximately $900,000.
According to Pennsylvania American Water’s Coatesville Operations Superintendent James Gable, the new system will improve service reliability and flows for fire fighting, and the sewer line project will reduce the likelihood of sewer backups. He said the projects will replace aging pipe that dates as far back as 1930s.
In Coatesville, crews recently began installing new eight-inch ductile iron water main along Valley Road between 6th Street and 8th Street to connect existing dead-end water lines. This project will be followed by construction in South Coatesville to replace aging water lines with new eight- and 12-inch ductile iron pipe along 1st Avenue, Birch Street, Beech Street and Wood Street.
In Parkesburg, crews will install new water and sewer lines along Beale Street between Gay Street and Route 10.
Crews will work weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Traffic disruptions in the work area are expected during construction hours. The company expects to complete the water and sewer main upgrades, including final paving restoration, by the end of December 2013, weather permitting.
