The Coatesville Bureau of Fire, along with the Brandywine YMCA and Community Youth and Woman’s Alliance (CYWA), are pleased to announce their partnership to make the Coatesville area a safer community.

On Tuesday, the Coatesville Bureau of Fire is hosting “Fire Safety Day Camp” for the city’s youth registered with the YMCA or CYWA 2013 Coatesville Summer Camp.

The event will consist of a morning and an afternoon session and will run from 8:30 a.m. until about 3:30 p.m. In addition to fire safety lecture and hands-on fire safety instruction, the participants will have the opportunity to practice their safety skills in a fire-safety trailer and a 911 emergency phone call simulator. Firefighters will be present and fire apparatus will staged for viewing as well as question and answers.

The Coatesville Police Department will also be on hand to share child identification kits.
All participants will be provided a fire safety camp t-shirt and a pizza party for lunch.

The partnership would like to thank the following sponsors for making the event possible: West End Fire Company #3,
Marco Fire Suppression,
Coatesville Professional Firefighters IAFF L-3790,
New Holland Auto Group,
Washington Hose Company #1,
10-8 Emergency Vehicle Service,
and the Kennett Square Fire Company, for the use of their Fire Safety Trailer.

“Historically the bureau has always reached out to the city’s youth to deliver important fire safety information. This year we took advantage of the coordinated programs of the CYWA and the YMCA and scheduled a whole day of activity,” explained Coatesville Interim Fire Chief Jim Lentz. “The information is important for all ages, but in my experience, the children at younger ages actually absorb more of the safety message and bring it home! It is our hope that they will share it with the other members of their family and help us make them fire safe!”

“ I would especially like to thank our sponsors and career firefighter Todd Reese for making this event a success,” said Lentz.

The Fire Department wants to remind city residents that smoke detectors are available free by calling the smoke detector hotline at 610-384-0300, ext. 3101.
