Adam Scott IV, 29, was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison for drug-dealing and weapons offenses.

A 29-year-old South Coatesville resident was sentenced Thursday to 25 years in federal prison on drug and weapons charges, Chester County District Attorney Tom Hogan said in a news release.

U.S. District Judge Petrese Tucker imposed the prison term on Adam Scott IV. After a weeklong trial in July 2012, a federal jury took only 45 minutes to convict Scott of selling over five kilograms of crack cocaine and possessing a firearm, the release said.

Scott, who had prior conviction for drug-dealing and firearms offenses, was arrested in 2010 based on an investigation by the Chester County High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (“HIDTA”) Strike Force.  Law enforcement identified Scott as a supplier of cocaine to various drug dealers in Coatesville and West Chester, the release said.

“We are proud that the work of the Chester County HIDTA Strike Force has taken another dangerous criminal off the streets,” said Hogan.  “Every gun-toting drug dealer in Coatesville is shaking in their shoes today, wondering what it would be like to get sentenced to 25 years in prison.  When local and federal law enforcement work together, the criminals do not stand a chance.”

HIDTA is a multi-agency organization dedicated to investigating and prosecuting large-scale, drug-trafficking organizations and violent criminals associated with drug-dealing.  The Chester County HIDTA Strike Force is led by the Chester County Detectives, with assistance from the Coatesville Police Department, Kennett Square Police Department, Oxford Police Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration. In this case, HIDTA also received help from  the West Chester Police Department, the Pennsylvania State Police, the Chester County Municipal Drug Taskforce, and the Chester County District Attorney’s Office Drug Unit.
