Armed robber hits city convenience store

Police said knife-wielding man grabbed $90 from cash register

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOn Wednesday, Coatesville Police responded to a convenience store in the 600 block of East Lincoln Highway for an armed-robbery dispatch at 8:39 p.m., Cpl. Jonathan Shave reported. Police said a light-skinned Hispanic or black male, who was wearing a ski mask and gloves, entered the store armed with a knife and went behind the register. There were no injuries, but the man fled with $90, police said. Anyone with information is urged to call police at 610-384-2300.

Fuel was reported stolen on Aug. 3 at 10:19 p.m. from a convenience store in the 1000 block of West King’s Highway, Cpl. Jonathan Shave reported. After conducting an investigation, police said charges of theft by unlawful taking, theft by deception, and receiving stolen property were filed against Rachel Ortega, 42, of Coatesville.

On Wednesday at 6:49 p.m., Cpl. Jonathan Shave conducted a pedestrian stop in the 500 block of Olive Street on Steven Carter, 20, of Coatesville, who matched the description of an individual in possession of a firearm, police said. No firearm was recovered, but Carter was found to be in possession of marijuana, processed and held for video- arraignment, police said.

An investigation into a harassment complaint on Wednesday led to a citation against Christiana Anderson, 22, of Coatesville, Cpl. Jonathan Shave reported. The victim said she was shopping when Anderson began to verbally harass and taunt her, police said.

On Thursday at 12:49 a.m., Cpl. Jonathan Shave was dispatched to the unit block of South Fifth Avenue for a reported assault, police said. The victim reported that he was preaching when a male wearing a hoodie came up and assaulted him, police said, adding that the man was treated at the scene for minor injuries. Police were dispatched to the area of South Sixth Avenue and East Lincoln Highway on Wednesday at 10:08 p.m. for a man seen with a gun in his waistband, Officer Rob Kuech reported. Upon arrival, officers stopped a subject matching the witness’s description, and although no gun was located, the 17-year-old was taken into custody for violating curfew and released to his mother, police said.

Cpl. Ken Michels and Officer Rob Kuech observed Justin Allen, 20, of Coatesville, walking southbound on South Sixth Avenue at 7:29 p.m., police said. Allen, wanted on three warrants, fled when the officers approached, police said. Allen, who was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit, was in possession of a small amount of marijuana, police said. He was transported to the police station, where constables transported him to district court and then Chester County Prison, police said.

On Wednesday at 1:33 p.m., Officer David Marquette had contact with Farley Calhoun, 47, of Brooklyn, N.Y., in the 1200 block of East Lincoln Highway. Calhoun, who had an active warrant from New York, was taken into custody to await transport to Chester County Prison.
