Charges, citations pending against four men
On Wednesday at 11:55 a.m., Coatesville Police Officer Sylvester Earle was on patrol in the 100 block of West Lincoln Highway when he observed a white Mercury Sable bearing fraudulent inspection stickers, police said. The operator, later identified as Malik R. Newton, 20, attempted to flee, committing several vehicle violations as he tried to elude authorities, police said. Newton traveled to the 200 block at which time he, Gerorne Gray, 19, and Ahmad Boggs, 18, all from Coatesville, ran from the car, and the Mercury, with no driver, rolled downhill, crashing into a parked vehicle as well as damaging landscaping, police said.
Gray and Boggs were apprehended by Coatesville detectives a short time later. Gray was arraigned and committed to the Chester County Prison after failing to post 10 percent of $15,000 bail; a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday, according to court records. Charges are pending against Newton and Boggs, police said. The vehicle owner, Brian C. Afoian, was cited for allowing a non-licensed driver to operate his vehicle, police said.
On Thursday, Officer Sylvester Earle responded to the 600 block of East Lincoln Highway for a domestic dispute, police said. Earle made contact with Lavoris Rooks, 50, and Wanda L. Lundy, 56, both of Coatesville, police said. Both women said the other struck her during a dispute; both were cited for harassment, police said.
On Thursday at 2:25 p.m., Lt. James Audette observed Barry McGinnies, 63, of Coatesville, on the sidewalk in the unit block of Strode Avenue consuming an alcoholic beverage, police said. McGinnies was cited for violating the city’s open-container ordinance.
Coatesville Police received a report of criminal mischief to a vehicle on Victoria Drive, sometime in the overnight hours on Thursday, Officer Joseph Norcini reported. Police said damage was done to the driver’s side handle as well as the rubber seal around the driver’s side window. A group of juveniles seen in the area may be responsible for the damage, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 610-384-2300.
