Police: Coatesville man charged in boy’s beating

48-year-old accused of inflicting injuries that required hospital treatment

Image 2Coatesville Police responded to the Brandywine Hospital Emergency Department on Monday at 2:21 p.m. for an assault against a 15-year-old boy, Cpl. Larry Cooper reported. Upon investigation, Thomas L. Boyer, 48, of Coatesville, was charged in connection with the beating, which included punching the teen several times in the head, face and body and causing injury to the eye that required stitches, police said. Boyer was charged with aggravated assault and related offenses, police said. A preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled, according to court records.

On Monday at 9:35 a.m., Coatesville Police and state police took Joshua M. Grow, 34, of Coatesville, into custody in the 100 block of South 11th Avenue on warrants from Chester and Lancaster Counties, Officer Chris McCarthy reported. Grow was transported to the Chester County Prison, police said.

Officers were dispatched to the 200 block of New Street for a domestic dispute with injuries on Thursday at 8:45 p.m., Cpl. Larry Cooper reported. Upon arrival, the victim said that her assailant, Maurice Hurst, 25, of Coatesville, had fled, police said. Later the same evening, officers responded to the 100 block of West Chestnut Street for a complaint involving assault, burglary and criminal trespass, police said. The victim said when she arrived at her residence, Hurst was exiting it, assaulted her again, and dragged her inside, police said. The woman managed to flee with her children and called 9-1-1 from a neighbor’s residence while Hurst fled the area, police said. He was charged with simple assault, harassment, burglary, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct, police said.

Officer Kirt Guyer responded to the 1100 block of East Lincoln Highway on Monday at 4:18 p.m. to a traffic accident with injuries, police said. Upon investigation, officers determined a silver Oldsmobile Aurora was travelling westbound when it rear-ended a green Mercury Mountaineer, pushing the Mercury into a red Ford, police said. A juvenile passenger in the Oldsmobile, which was operated by Lissette Spence, 26, of Coatesville, was transported to Brandywine Hospital for a minor facial injury, police said. Spence was cited for following too closely and driving with a suspended license, police said. The driver of the Mercury, Hector Hernandez-Garcia, 27, of Coatesville, was cited for driving without a valid license, police said.

Troopers from the Embreeville barracks conducted a traffic stop on Sept. 12 at 3:33 a.m. on South First Avenue in South Coatesville, state police said. As a result, Mack McCrory Cannon, 37, of Coatesville, was determined to be in illegal possession of a firearm and charged accordingly, police said.

During the same traffic stop, Floyd A. Marshall, 49, of Coatesville, was determined to be driving under the influence, state police said. Charges against Marshall were filed in district court, police said.
