Police: alleged armed home-invader in custody

Authorities said 17-year-old has been charged as adult

Image 2A 17-year-old has been charged as an adult in connection with the Sept. 18 home invasion robbery that occurred in the 400 block of Maple Avenue in the city, Coatesville Police Det. Shawn Dowds said Friday.

Victor Woodward has been charged with numerous felonies, including robbery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault, and carjacking, police said. Coatesville Police said they took Woodward into custody Sunday night in the rear of the 400 block of Maple Avenue, near his home, on a juvenile bench warrant. After further investigation, detectives linked Woodward to the home invasion and carjacking, police said.

The victims told police that they were in a bedroom watching a movie at 12:29 a.m. when two black males wearing black hoodies with black handguns entered the room after gaining entry to the residence through a window, police said. The actors told the victims, who were not injured, not to move or do anything, asked them where the money was, and took the victims’ keys, cell phones, and cash before exiting the home and stealing the victims’ vehicle, police said. Police said they recovered the unoccupied vehicle in the vicinity. The investigation is continuing, and police said they have not yet identified the second suspect.

Coatesville Police Officer Joseph Thompson conduct a traffic stop on Thursday at 11:35 p.m. on the U.S. 30 Bypass and Wagontown Road that resulted in the arrest of Fontel Toland, 21, of Modena, police said. Toland is accused of carrying a concealed Cobra .380 semiautomatic weapon without a license, police said.

Police were dispatched to the area of South Sixth Avenue and Harmony Street for a group of juveniles’ smoking drugs and causing a disturbance on Thursday at 4:17 p.m., Officer Joseph Norcini reported, Upon arrival, police observed the group of juveniles, one of whom fled and was apprehended after a brief foot pursuit, police said. The juvenile, who was not identified because of his age, was found in possession of marijuana in the area and taken into custody, police said.

Officer Stephen Galletta made contact with Mindy Hilton in the 400 block of Coates Street on Thursday at 4:48 a.m., police said. Hilton, 32, of Coatesville, was taken into custody without incident for a bench warrant and four non-traffic warrants, police said.

Coatesville Police were dispatched to the 600 block of Oak Street on Thursday at 8 a.m. for a complaint about multiple vehicles with their tires stashed, Officer Joseph Norcini reported. Upon arrival, Police did observe puncture marks to the tires of numerous vehicles. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at  610-384-2300.

Grant L. Maxwell, 43, of Coatesville, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop of silver Ford F-150 in which he was a passenger on Sept. 9 at 7:04 p.m., state police from the Embreeville barracks said. Police said the vehicle was detained at West Chester and Woodward Roads in South Coatesville.

On Sept. 1, state police said Brianna E. Baker, 23, of Coatesville, was involved in a crash on North First Avenue at Diamond Street in Coatesville. Troopers determined that Baker, who had marijuana in her possession, was driving under the influence of the drug, state police said. Charges, which include DUI and driving without a license, were filed in district court. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 14, court records said. An investigation is continuing, and anyone with information is asked to call police at 610-486-6280.

State police said they are also investigating another instance of alleged drug possession that unfolded during a traffic stop on Sept. 10 at 10:14 a.m. in Honey Brook. Devin J. Scott, 22, of Coatesville, who was operating a black Dodge Stratus on Maple Street at Rt. 322, was found to be in possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 610-486-6280. A preliminary hearing for Scott is scheduled for Nov. 1, according the court records, which indicate Scott was jailed after failing to post 10 percent of $25,000 bail.
