Teen taken into custody for Sept. 27 robbery

Police said 14-year-old stole cell phone, which was recovered

ImageAs a result of an investigation into a strong-arm robbery on Sept. 27 at 9:45 p.m. in the unit block of Pennsylvania Avenue, police took a 14-year-old male into custody, Officer Joe Thompson reported Thursday. The teen, who was not identified because of his age, was transported to the Chester County Detention Center pending his hearing on Friday, and the victim’s cell phone recovered and returned, police said.

On Tuesday at 8:33 p.m., Officer Kirt Guyer observed Stacey Norris, 49, of Coatesville, occupying a white Dodge Durango in the unit block of Pennsylvania Avenue, police said. Norris, who had a bench warrant for failure to appear at trial, almost struck Guyer with her vehicle as she attempted to flee, police said. After a vehicle pursuit led by Officer Christopher McCarthy that  ended in Caln Township, Norris was taken into custody and transported to Chester County Prison by constables, police said, adding that charges are pending for the pursuit.

On Sunday at 4:54 p.m., police responded to unit block of South Eighth Avenue for a domestic disturbance, Officer Sylvester Earle reported. Upon investigation, Hector M. Mercado, 24, of Coatesville, was charged with harassment and disorderly conduct for allegedly striking a female victim, police said.

On Wednesday, at 10:15 a.m., Vanessa London, 27, of Coatesville, was observed by Coatesville Schools Officer Claire Lang and taken to the police station on a bench warrant to await transport to Chester County Prison, Officer Sylvester Earle reported.

A traffic stop was conducted on Sept. 27 at 10:50 p.m. by Cpl. Larry Cooper at North Seventh Avenue and East Chestnut Street for a vehicle operating without headlights, police said. The operator, Daja Dunn, 20, of Coatesville, provided false ID to Cooper and has since been charged with forgery, false Identification, unlicensed driver and related offenses, police said, adding that a court date is pending.

Officer Jose Colon took Douglas Gray, 42, of Coatesville, into custody on Tuesday at 1:36 a.m. in the 700 block of Coates Street; Gray was cited for public drunkenness, police said.

On Tuesday at 1:36 a.m., police responded to a vehicle accident in the 700 block of East Lincoln Highway, Officer Jose Colon reported. Upon investigation, Colon determined that Mark 0. Lawrence, 44, of Coatesville, had been driving while under the influence of alcohol and struck three parked vehicles, police said. Lawrence, who was not injured, was taken into custody and charged with DUI and driving without a license, police said.

On Monday at 9:09 a.m., Sgt. Steven Smith observed a vehicle swerving erratically in the 100 block of Strode Avenue, police said. After conducting a traffic stop, police said the driver, Jacqueline Mendenhall, 44, of Coatesville, exhibited obvious signs of intoxication and was taken into custody and arrested for suspected drunken-driving, police said. Blood drawn for analysis indicated that Mendenhall’s blood-alcohol content was 0.30, police said.

In less than two weeks, Kimberly Diaz, 26, of Coatesville, was cited twice for harassment, Cpl. Larry Cooper reported. The first complaint was lodged Sept. 29 at 3:26 p.m. after two young girls said Diaz had been using profanity and calling them names for weeks while they were playing with friends and walking in the neighborhood, police said. The second complaint occurred Tuesday at 9:46 p.m., when a woman said Diaz had been harassing her and her family in the city and around her neighborhood, police said, adding that Diaz will be mailed summary harassment citations.
