Victim: Punch to head caused him to drop cell phone

He said three teens stole it and fled on foot

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOn Thursday at 10 p.m., Officer Joe Thompson, who was responding to a robbery report, was flagged down by the alleged victim, who was visibly shaken and bleeding from the right side of his head near his eye, police said. The victim said he had been standing in the unit block of South Fourth Avenue texting on his black Boost Mobile Seek Samsung, valued at $100, when three black male teens wearing black clothing approached from the opposite direction, police said.

The victim said he moved aside and was suddenly punched in the head, dropping his phone; he said one of the teens grabbed the cell phone, said thank-you, and fled with his companions on Olive Street toward Fifth Avenue, police said. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 610-384-2300.

On Friday, police responded to the 200 block of Union Avenue at 7:48 a.m. after a man said his 2013 Chrysler 200 was spray-painted sometime overnight, Officer Sylvester Earle reported. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 610-384-2300.

A two-vehicle accident in the 100 block of East Lincoln Highway on Friday at 1:59 p.m. led to a careless driving citation for Kathleen Overman-Martin, 30, of West Chester, Officer Sylvester Earle reported. Overman-Martin rear-ended a car attempting to stop at an intersection, police said. The driver of the vehicle that was struck, a 23-year-old Coatesville resident, was treated at the scene for minor injuries, police said.

A traffic stop at 11th Avenue and East Lincoln Highway led to drug charges against Victor Thomas, 56, of Coatesville, on Friday at 9:44 p.m., Officer Joseph Thompson reported. Police said Thomas possessed a controlled substance.

Responding on Saturday at 12:15 a.m.  to South First Avenue and Oak Street, Officer Joe Woulfe found Travis Toney, 28, of Coatesville, lying unresponsive on the sidewalk, police said. Toney, who had a strong odor of alcohol, could not be roused and was taken to Brandywine Hospital; he will be cited for public drunkenness, police said.

Witnesses told police that they saw a green Ford van strike a parked vehicle in the 300 block of East Chestnut Street on Friday at 11:15 p.m. and flee, Officer Joe Woulfe reported.  The striking vehicle was later located around the corner in a parking lot, but its driver remains unknown, police said. Police made contact with Troy Short, 46, of Coatesville, in the 600 block of East Lincoln Highway on Friday at 12:58 a.m., Officer Kirt Guyer reported.  Short, who had a warrant for robbery and related charges, was taken into custody and held for arraignment, police said.

Officer Kirt Guyer responded to the 300 block of Community Lane on Thursday at 10:32 p.m. for a trespassing complaint, police said. Jacqui Brake, 18, of Coatesville, was cited for trespassing at a construction site, police said.

Troopers from the Embreeville barracks arrested Kyle M. Baldwin, 21, of Lancaster, on Oct. 25 on westbound U.S. 30, east of Rt. 322, in Caln Township, state police said. Police said Baldwin possessed marijuana that was packaged for sale.
