City man accused of possessing cocaine, lots of cash

Police said he tried to toss drugs during pedestrian stop 

IMG_0866When Coatesville Police Officer Joe Thompson made a pedestrian stop in the 800 block of Coates Street on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 12:17 p.m., police said Zaequon T. Closson, 23, of Coatesville, responded by trying to toss the cocaine he possessed. Police said Closson, who also possessed a large amount of U.S. currency, was charged with cocaine possession.  Closson was remanded to Chester County Prison to await a preliminary hearing on Nov. 18 after failing to post 10 percent of $10,000 bail, court records said.

Officer Joe Thompson attempted to stop Stefon Smith, 26, of Coatesville, for a traffic violation on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at Merchant Street and Seventh Avenue at 8:24 a.m., police said. Smith failed to stop until he was parked in his driveway, police said, telling Thompson that he could not be stopped “since he made it home.”  Smith, who was arrested without incident, faces offenses that include fleeing and eluding, having an expired license, and ignoring a stop sign, police said.

On Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 8:24 p.m., Cpl. Jeffrey Ingemie conducted a pedestrian stop in the 200 block of East Diamond Street on Bonnie Ontiveros, 51, of Coatesville, who was displaying a 12-ounce can of Busch Light beer, police said. Ontiveros will be cited for a violation of the city’s open-container law, police said.

Police are seeking the public’s help in spotting a Hyundai Sonata bearing Pennsylvania registration JGD-8075 that was allegedly stolen by Raymond Cook of Norristown on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 10:52 p.m., Cpl. Jeffrey Ingemie reported. Cook is also wanted by Montgomery County authorities for a bench warrant, police said. Anyone who sees the vehicle is asked to report it to 9-1-1 with its location, police said.

Troopers from the Embreeville barracks cited a Lancaster man for following too closely after an accident on Monday, Nov. 11, at 7:29 a.m. on the U.S. 30 Bypass, west of Bondsville Road in Caln Township, state police said. Police said Howard D. Weiss, 59, was traveling east in a 2007 Lincoln Town Car and failed to stop for traffic, hitting a 2010 Lexus RX350 and forcing it into a 2012 Honda Pilot.  No one was injured, state police said.
