City police: Traffic stops lead to drug arrests

Two Coatesville men facing possession, paraphernalia chargesĀ 

ImageOn Monday, Nov. 25, at 2:54 p.m., Coatesville Police conducted a traffic stop of a green Ford Explorer in the 100 block of West Lincoln Highway, Officer Sylvester Earle reported. During the stop, officers observed several plastic baggies commonly used to package illegal drugs on the rear seat of the vehicle, police said. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to more baggies, a small amount of suspected marijuana, and the arrest of the driver, Marco Vazquez, 18, of Coatesville, police said.

Vazquez faces charges that include possession of a controlled substance/paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license and traffic offenses, police said. He was arraigned and released on $5,000 unsecured bail, police said.

A traffic stop on a black Kia for a motor-vehicle violation on Monday, Nov. 25, at 7:26 p.m. in the 600 block of Valley Road also led to an arrest, Cpl. Jonathan Shave reported. The driver, Slade Staniech, 20, of Coatesville, was found to be in possession of brass knuckles, a prohibited offensive weapon, police said. A further search of his car revealed additional marijuana and paraphernalia, police said. Staniech was arraigned on charges of possession, possession with intent to distribute, and weapons charges; he was committed to Chester County Prison after failing to post 10 percent of $5,000 bail, police said.
