Friday night’s tree-lighting a prelude to Saturday’s Festive 5K-Run, parade
Coatesville officials want you to bring your holiday cheer and a favorite family ornament to hang from the city’s tree on Friday, Dec. 6.
The Coatesville Parks and Recreation Commission and the Coatesville Community Policing Committee are hosting the annual Coatesville Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony at 6 p.m. at Gateway Park, First Avenue and Lincoln Highway.
A special guest appearance will be made by none other than Santa Claus.
Friday night’s festivities will serve as a prelude to Saturday’s merriment, which will include the Brandywine Health Foundation’s Fourth Annual Festive 5K Run or One-Mile Fun Walk at 9 a.m. The event, which benefits the Coatesville Youth Initiative, has quickly become a popular family tradition since it’s followed by the Coatesville Christmas Parade on Lincoln Highway.
An extravaganza of floats, bands, classic cars, and more, this year’s parade will feature Amy Fadool from Comcast Sportsnet as grand marshal. The featured special guest is Coatesville’s own Vince Belnome of the Tampa Bay Rays, and the Lone Ranger and his horse Silver are scheduled to participate. Musical entertainment will include the Quaker City, Avalon and Duffy String Bands, the Eagles Pep Band, the Lukens Band, the Emerald Society Pipe and Drum Band, and the Coatesville High School Red Raider Marching Band.
