City police: Firearm recovered during traffic stop

Officers say Coatesville resident lacked driver’s license, license to carry

Image 2On Dec. 25 at 10:22 p.m., Coatesville Police Officers Joseph Thompson and Joseph Norcini stopped a vehicle northbound on 10th Avenue at Stirling Street for not having headlights, police said. The driver, Ashby Shatteen-Brown, 22, of Coatesville, was unable to produce a driver’s license, and officers saw a firearm in the vehicle, which Shatteen-Brown had denied having, said police.

After officers recovered a fully loaded Ruger 9 mm weapon, Shatteen-Brown said he had a license to carry it but was unable to provide it, and county records suggested otherwise, police said. Shatteen-Brown was arrested without incident, and officers also found marijuana and drug paraphernalia in a bag belonging to him, police said.

A pedestrian stop on Dec. 25 at 8:50 p.m. led to an arrest, Officer Joseph Thompson reported. Police said John Ellerby, 21, of Coatesville, was carrying crack cocaine; a subsequent search of his residence yielded additional paraphernalia. He was charged with numerous drug violations, police said.

The Coatesville City Police Department responded to several reports of criminal mischief to vehicles on Dec. 25, Cpl. Jonathan Shave reported. Several victims in the 500 block of East Harmony Street said their vehicles were “keyed,” and objects were thrown through the windows. One victim reported that the damage occurred sometime after 11 p.m. Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 610-384-2300; anonymous tips can be generated by using the Coatesville PD Tips app or by texting the keyword of Coatesville and a message to 847411.

A Coatesville man was stopped by state police from the Embreeville barracks on the U.S. 30 Bypass’s eastbound off-ramp to Rt. 340 in Caln Township, state police said. Troopers determined that Bruce E. Shepherd, 57, of Coatesville, was driving under the influence on Nov. 29 at 11:26 p.m., state police said.

Troopers from the Embreeville barracks responded to the Walmart in West Sadsbury Township on Tuesday, Dec. 24, at 2:58 p.m. for a theft complaint, state police said. Kevin E. Ealy, 24, of Coatesville, was taken into custody for attempting to steal a Walls work jacket, state police said.

On Friday, Dec. 20, patrol officers from the West Whiteland Township Police Department were dispatched to the Marshall’s store for a report of a theft, West Whiteland police said. Police said a store employee, Sherrell Harrod, 42, of Coatesville, was charged with theft after store officials said she stole $100 from a cash register and a $19.99 item from the sales floor. She was released on a summons, police said.

On Saturday, Dec. 21, patrol officers were dispatched to the Macy’s store for a reported theft, West Whiteland Township Police said. Upon arrival, officers were advised that a store employee, identified as Nikki Rodgers, 20, Coatesville, had stolen $197 worth of merchandise from the store, West Whiteland police said. Rodgers was charged with retail theft and receiving stolen property and released on a summons, police said.
