Organizers from the Coatesville Area School District and the Coatesville Youth Initiative want residents to mark their calendars for Monday, Jan. 20: the Fourth Annual Martin Luther King Day of Service.

The hands-on community service day will be held at Coatesville Area Senior High School (CASH) to help promote the mission and principles of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The event promises myriad activities for all ages and skill levels from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants can join their neighbors in creating care packages for local senior citizen, make quilts for a cause, or learn how to improve credit worthiness.

In addition, oratorical presentations will feature student participants from across the district, who created original writings.   The featured essays will be presented live, beginning at 12:30 p.m. in the CASH auditorium.

Other activities will include storytelling, arts and crafts, teen programs on current topics, like job readiness, and the creation of cards for service men and women.  Residents can make sure their voices are heard by signing up during a voter registration drive or work on improving mind and body by visiting the gym for sessions in Zumba and Body Combat.

Participants are asked to bring a donation of canned goods to the registration table upon their arrival – donations that will benefit the Chester County Food Bank.  For a complete schedule, see our program on the school district web site: http://www.coatesville.k12.pa.us
