Feeling a bit bluer than usual after Election Day
By Mike McGann, Editor, The Times
So, what to take away from Tuesday’s election results?
While the county’s Congressional races and even State Representative races weren’t a surprise (regular readers will note I felt pretty strongly that Democrats could win all but three state house districts unless the national wave was immense, which it was not, and they did), you have to think that the state...
Whatever else you do Tuesday, get out and vote!
Tuesday, Nov. 6 is Election Day. Polls in Pennsylvania are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. While the weather forecasts are less than ideal — possible thundershowers – there should be no major concerns to keep people from voting.
No matter what your personal view of the current political environment, you owe it to our future to cast your ballot.
For too many years, we heard “they’re both the same”...
Letter: In support of Eric Roe
To the Editor:
As the November 6th election approaches, I want to put in a good word for State Representative Eric Roe. In an otherwise polarized and partisan election cycle, Eric Roe has proven that he’s willing to put people above politics. That’s why he’ll have my vote.
His leadership against unfair gerrymandering is probably the best example of his integrity. In a world where politicians...
Editorial: An electoral shock to the system needed to save GOP
As has been the case since the earliest days of The Times, we had planned to make endorsements in all of the 2018 elections.
We expected, again, to endorse a combination of Democratic and Republican candidates — based entirely on who we saw as likely serving as the best possible public servants. While we often did not agree with a candidate’s ideology, we were able to credit work ethic, honesty...
Endorsement: Chrissy Houlahan for Congress
In this year’s race for the new and open Sixth Congressional District seat — a seat that now encompasses all of Chester County as well as the southern portion of Berks County — we have Democrat Chrissy Houlahan facing Republican Greg McCauley, both first-time candidates for office.
Unlike the visceral, top of the ticket races for U.S. Senate and Governor, this race, thankfully, has been more...
Letter: Vote — America’s soul is on the ballot
To the Editor,
This is no ordinary election.
It’s about more than candidates, policies and political parties.
On November 6th:
Decency is on the ballot.
Respect is on the ballot.
Truth is on the ballot
Democracy is on the ballot.
America’s soul is on the ballot.
The President is waging war on the free press–a cornerstone of our Democracy–and declares the only Truth to be what...
Endorsement: Tom Wolf for Governor
With Pennsylvania continuing to be unable to function on a basic level — schools continue to be underfunded, our infrastructure continues to crumble from years of neglect and increasingly even State Police coverage is threatened for local communities — there was an opportunity for a bold, new vision to really address the commonwealth’s problems by a gubernatorial candidate this year.
Unfortunately,...
Hihg School Democrats organize voter registration drives
Over the past two weeks, chapters of the High School Democrats of Pennsylvania (HSDPA), in partnership with the organization New Voters, have been holding voter registration drives at schools across the state. This initiative is meant to target the chronic problem of low youth voter participation by utilizing a more hands-on and comprehensive method of high school voter registration. 18-24 year olds...
