WEST CHESTER — The Chester County Internal Audit Department, under the leadership of County Controller Norman MacQueen, has received a commendation from the Association of Local Government Auditors (ALGA) for its operations undertaken from January 2012 to December 2014. The department is one of only five audit departments among Pennsylvania’s 67 counties to meet these prestigious standards, and it is the fourth consecutive peer review to achieve this accolade.
“This distinction assures Chester County residents that our office provides honest and credible reviews of county government operations and spending at a time when it is critical that taxpayer dollars are monitored for appropriate and effective uses,” McQueen said in a statement.
Independent members of ALGA reviewed the Chester County office’s internal quality control system, including policies and procedures, documents related to independence, training and development of auditing staff, and internal monitoring procedures.
Audit organizations that follow Government Auditing Standards require a peer review every three years to ensure that work is adhering to established policies and procedures. ALGA’s peer review stated: “The County of Chester Internal Audit Department’s internal quality control system is operating effectively to provide reasonable assurance of compliance with Government Auditing Standards for audits and attestation engagements.”
