Caln police chief on paid administrative leave

Township manager said he could not discuss reason for open-ended suspension

For 26 years, Caln Township Police Chief Brian R. Byerly has worked in Caln’s police department, four years in the top post.

Now the man who advanced in the ranks to chief in a township of about 14,000 residents has been placed on paid administrative leave.

Township Manager Gregory E. Prowant said he could not discuss the reason. “It’s a personnel issue; I can’t discuss specifics,” said Prowant. “All I can tell you is that he’s on paid administrative leave.”

Prowant said that he was not aware of any timetable for the action. He said the department’s supervisory duties are being handled by  Lt. Jeff Nash.

Byerly, a graduate of the FBI Academy, did not return an email seeking comment.
