Coatesville edges C. Dauphin East, 28-21

Last-minute drive puts Red Raiders over the top

HARRISBURG — Emmitt Hunt hit wide receiver Chris Jones with a 25-yard scoring pass with just 35 seconds left in the game as Coatesville battled for a 28-21 win over Central Dauphin East, Friday night.

The game was something of a homecoming for Red Raiders’ coach Matt Ortega, a 1993 grad of Central Dauphin East — and the long drive to the state capital proved worthwhile, as Coatesville used an explosive passing game to overcome a bit of a size disadvantage upfront.

Jones, a senior, had six catches in the game for 189 yards — including three TD scores. Hunt, a senior, also had a strong night, throwing four TD passes, completing 9 of 18 for 258 yards on the game. The Red Raiders (2-1) managed to open a 21-7 lead in the third quarter before the Panthers (1-2) staged a furious comeback to tie the game.

But Coatesville struck like lightning in the final minute of the game, with Hunt hitting wideout Vinnie Williams for 36 yards, to set up the final scoring play to Jones.

With the win, Coatesville is set up to start ChesMont National action next week with a showdown against undefeated Downingtown East, next Friday.
