Houlahan calls for ouster of Post Office leadership

U.S. Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D-6) has seen enough.

Wednesday, she called for the ouster of of the entire leadership of the United State Postal Service (USPS), including its board of directors and Postmaster General Louis DeJoy.

DeJoy has been increasingly under fire for operating changes he made to the USPS, which has lead to slower mail delivery and a higher percentage of mail and packages being lost en route. Some critics suggested that DeJoy was deliberately sabotaging the mail to hurt mail-in voting.

Regardless of the motivation, Houlahan said Wednesday it was time for change, immediately.

The Chester-County-based Congress member is urging President Joe Biden to “rescue” the USPS by replacing the entire USPS Board of Governors, which she said has continued to enable DeJoy and his harmful acts. In August, Rep. Houlahan called on President Trump to fire DeJoy for his increasingly partisan attacks on the USPS that have significantly harmed the USPS and the millions of Americans who rely on its services.

“The Postmaster General is not only failing at his job but is also actively harming the United States Postal Service and the countless Pennsylvanians who rely on its services,”  Houlahan said in a statement. “My community is hurting – veterans aren’t getting their prescriptions on time; families are paying late fees because their bills still haven’t showed up; workers are falling behind on rent because their paychecks have been lost. Times are hard enough, and Louis DeJoy has demonstrated time and again that he is unable or unwilling to get the job done.

“I am calling on President Biden to use his authority under 39 U.S.C. § 202 to immediately and summarily replace the entire USPS Board of Governors. As a collective body, the Board has failed the American people in their tacit support of DeJoy.

“These are trying times, and our responsibility as elected leaders is to do everything in our power to help lessen the pain being felt by so many Americans. My duty is to my community, and their message has been clear – the USPS is failing them.”
