The Chester County Commissioners officially proclaimed the County’s support for Pride Month with the presentation of a proclamation at today’s Commissioners’ public meeting.  Accepting the proclamation on behalf of the LGBT Equality Alliance of Chester County was one of the organization’s board members, Mary Benton.

The proclamation read, in part, “Chester County is committed to the fundamental aspects of a healthy community – diversity, social justice, equality, and mutual respect – yet recognizes the work still to be done to ensure LGBTQ+ individuals do not face harassment, prejudice, and lack of equal protection.  In addition, the Commissioners noted the work of Chester County’s employee-led Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, which ensures that all County employees, including LGBTQ+ individuals, are part of a non-discriminatory workplace that allows them to be their authentic selves.

Also attending the Commissioners’ Meeting to accept the Pride Month proclamation were Kim Bydlon and Ghana Rowell, members of the Chester County employees’ Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.

Prior to the Commissioners’ Meeting, the Pride Flag was raised at both the Chester County Justice Center and the Chester County Government Services Center, to illustrate the County’s support for Pride Month.   Carrie Stare, President of the LGBT Equality Alliance of Chester County joined Commissioners Moskowitz and Maxwell, as well as Kim Bydlon and Ghana Rowell in raising the flag at the Justice Center.

The Pride flag will continue to fly in front of both County buildings until the end of June.
