GVSD names Alcaro Supervisor of Teaching and Learning

Dr. Joseph Alcaro has been appointed K-12 Supervisor of Teaching and Learning at Great Valley School District.

At its regular meeting on February 25, the Great Valley School Board approved the appointment of Dr. Joseph Alcaro as K-12 Supervisor of Teaching and Learning with a concentration in social studies and other humanities. Dr. Alcaro brings with him a distinguished career spanning more than two decades in Pennsylvania public education, encompassing classroom instruction, department leadership, building administration, and district-level curriculum supervision.

Dr. Alcaro currently serves as the Supervisor of 7–12 Curriculum & Instruction at Exeter Township School District, where he elevated instructional quality through evidence-based professional development, expanded Advanced Placement and dual enrollment opportunities for students, and oversaw the growth and alignment of the district’s Cyber Academy. 

Prior to his supervisory role, Dr. Alcaro served as Assistant Principal at both the elementary and secondary levels at Exeter Township School District. His roots in public education began at Wyomissing Area Junior Senior High School, where he spent sixteen years as a Social Studies teacher and Department Chairperson, building a reputation for rigorous instruction and student-centered leadership.

Dr. Alcaro holds an Ed.D. in Education Administration and Leadership from Pennsylvania Western University, a Principal Certification from Alvernia University, a Master of Science in Education from Wilkes University, and a Bachelor of Science in Social Studies Education from Millersville University.

Dr. Alcaro expressed his enthusiasm for this next chapter in his career, “I’m extremely excited for the opportunity to join the administrative team at Great Valley School District. With more than 20 years of experience in public education, I remain just as passionate today about creating exciting, engaging opportunities for students and teachers as I was at the start of my career.”
