Nine newborns are entertaining visitors at Springton Manor Farm
Nine Duroc piglets entered the world on March 1, an early sign of spring, Springton Manor Farm announced Wednesday.
The proud sow, “Dora the Explorer,” is on loan from The Lazarus Farm in Whitehall, officials said.
“Chester County Facilities & Parks Department is grateful for Mr. Lazarus’ generosity, loaning the sow to Springton Manor Farm so that she and her nine offspring can be here for public education as well as enjoyment,” said Jerry Battisto, Springton Manor’s foreman.
“The arrival of these nine piglets is early this year – we usually don’t have piglets running around the barn until around the third week in March,” he added.
Like all Chester County parks, Springton Manor has a schedule of programs and activities for the public, including the annual Sheep & Wool Day, which will be held this year on April 27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sheep & Wool Day is a family favorite with sheep shearing, artisan demonstrations, a reptile program, and much more.
Visiting hours for the Springton Manor Farm Great Barn are daily from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. In addition to staff-guided and self-guided tours of the livestock in the Great Barn, Springton Manor features many family-based attractions and activities including a “catch and release” pond, the Bluebird Trail, and a family picnic area.
Springton Manor Farm is located at 860 Springton Road, Glenmoore, five miles west of Downingtown off Rt. 322. Admission is free, and farm grounds are open from 8 a.m. to dusk. For more information, call (610) 942-2450 or visit www.chesco.org/ccparks.
