City police seeking information on Monday fight

Investigators believe it ended with shooting or stabbing of Downingtown man

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERACoatesville police are seeking information about a large fight that may have preceded the possible shooting and stabbing of a 23-year-old man on Monday evening.

Officers said they were dispatched to a report that shots had been fired on South Sixth Avenue at 7:19 p.m. Monday; however, the only evidence of that was blood found in the 500 block of Olive Street – until Brandywine Hospital called about a half-hour later.

Police learned from hospital personnel that DaShawn London, 23, of Downingtown, had arrived with a possible gunshot injury to the arm, police said. Coatesville Det. Kevin Campbell said he went right to the hospital to speak with London.

Campbell said London claimed that he had been shot but did not know by whom. The detective said hospital officials could not confirm the bullet wound since no bullet was found, just a hole by London’s elbow. London, who was released from the hospital Wednesday night, also had slashing/puncture wounds on his hand and forearm for which he had no explanation, Campbell said.

“We have unconfirmed information that a large number of people were involved in a fight earlier,” said Campbell. “We’re eager to hear from anyone that knows anything about that.” Anyone with information is asked to call police at 610-384-2300. According to court records, London was sentenced in June 2011 to 11 ½ to 23 months in prison followed by two years’ probation for a 2010 robbery.

In other police news, Cpl. Jeffrey Ingemie conducted a pedestrian stop on Wednesday at 8:23 p.m. in the 800 block of East Lincoln Highway, police said. Woodrow Jones of Downingtown was cited for having an open beer as he sat on the bus stop bench, police said.
