Police report armed robbery on Tuesday night

Victim said he was struck in face with gun when he refused to give up keys

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERACoatesville police responded to South Fifth and Maple Avenues on Tuesday at 11:28 p.m. for an armed robbery, Officer Brenden M. Boyle reported. The victim said he had just exited his vehicle when he was approached by two black males who demanded his keys; when the victim refused, he was struck in the face with a firearm one of the men had displayed, police said. The victim sustained a laceration and swelling to his face and was transported to Brandywine Hospital for treatment, police said. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to call police at 610-384-2300.

Police responded to the 1000 block of Walnut Street on Thursday at 10:04 a.m. to assist constables in serving warrants on Richard Works, 28, of Coatesville, Det. Shannon Miller reported.

On Thursday at 2:15 p.m., a man reported that overnight the lock was cut the lock on a shed at the rear of a residence in the 700 block of Madison Street and stole a gas can, Det. Shannon Miller reported.

 Trehran L. Powell, 33, of Coatesville, was taken into custody on Thursday on a criminal warrant, Officer Jose Colon reported.

A resident in the unit block of Fifth Avenue told police that when he left his house on Thursday at 4:56 a.m. to go to work, his silver Jeep Cherokee was missing, Officer Carmen Mollichella reported.  Police recovered the vehicle in the 600 block of Coates Street at 11:28 a.m., Det. Shannon Miller reported. It was returned to the owner, who refused any further processing, police said.

On Wednesday at 7:11 p.m., Officer Carmen Mollichella observed Andre Montague, 57, of Malvern, driving northbound on South Sixth Avenue approaching East Lincoln Highway, police said. A traffic stop was initiated because Montague had an active warrant; he was taken into custody without incident and held for Bucks County authorities, police said.

Coatesville Cpl. Ken Michels and Officer Rob Kuech were on patrol in the 600 block of East Lincoln Highway on Wednesday at 12:30 a.m. when they detained Dante R. Camp, 19, of Coatesville, who had several active warrants, police said. Camp was taken into custody and transported to the police station to await transport by constables, police said. Police were on patrol in the 300 block of East Lincoln Highway on Tuesday at 10:57 p.m. when they heard loud music coming from a Mercury sedan, Officer Rob Kuech and Cpl. Ken Michels reported. The driver, Kyle Coleman, 24, of Coatesville, was cited for the noise ordinance violation as well as traffic offenses, police said. A passenger, Rodney Jacks, 21, of Coatesville, was found to be in possession of a small amount of suspected marijuana, taken into custody without incident, and held for arraignment, police said.

Police were dispatched to the 700 block of Coates Street on Wednesday at 7:58 p.m. for an alleged assault, Officer Brenden M. Boyle reported. Officers spoke with the juvenile victim, who said she was attacked by another juvenile female and Lisa Collins, 46, of Coatesville, police said. Further investigation revealed that the reporting juvenile had come to the area to fight; both juveniles and Collins were cited for disorderly conduct, police said.

Police observed Kadijah Thompson, 19, of Coatesville, known to have active warrants for harassment and disorderly conduct, in the 600 block of East Harmony Street on Wednesday at 12:30 a.m., Officer Kirt Guyer reported. Thompson was taken into custody without incident and held for constables, police said. –

On Tuesday at 7:10 p.m., police were dispatched to the 300 block of Walnut Street for a fight, Officer Kirt Guyer reported. The alleged victims and witnesses stated that Shannon Torres, 29, of Coatesville, had instigated a fight and that it took several people to break it up, police said. Citations for simple trespass and disorderly conduct were filed against Torres, who fled before officers arrived, police said.

An accident on Monday on Rt. 82 at Wagontown Road led to a speeding citation for Ruben J. Montano, who lost control of his Toyota Sequoia as he attempted to turn onto Wagontown Road at 1:22 p.m. and struck two other vehicles on the wet roadway, Officer Sylvester Earle reported. Police said all three vehicles were damaged but no one was injured.

On Tuesday at 2:38 p.m. Officer Stephen Galletta made contact with Jose Santos, 31, of Coatesville, in the 200 Block of East Lincoln Highway, police said. Santos, who had an active warrant for failing to appear in court, was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Police assisted Chester County Adult Probation officers on home visit for David Smith Jr., 22, of Coatesville, Cpl. Jeffrey Ingemie reported. Smith, who had outstanding traffic warrants, was found to be in violation of his probation for several offenses and was taken into custody for the violations and held on the warrants, police said.

On Monday at 10:19 a.m., a city resident stated that she was receiving harassing text messages from Mark W. Franklin of Pottsville, Officer Stephen Galletta reported. A harassment citation was filed against Franklin, police said.

During a DUI checkpoint, state police from the Embreeville barracks determined that Taylor W. Megill, 24, of Coatesville was driving under the influence, police said. She was detained on May 25 at 1:35 a.m. at the intersection of Eighth Avenue and Lincoln Highway, police said. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 3, court records said.

On May 20 at 4:28 p.m., state police said they responded to a crash on the Rt. 340 ramp from the westbound Rt. 30 Bypass. As a 2006 Toyota Sequoia was stopped for traffic, it was rear-ended by a 2005 Mercedes-Benz C240 driver by Martin Pesilo, 74, of West Chester, police said. No injuries were reported, but Pesilo, who was possibly suffered from a medical condition, was transported to Chester County Hospital for evaluation, police said.

  1. Before Chief Jack Laufer there were no police reports from the Coatesville PD. The articles you read about crime in Coatesville came from the District Attorney’s office. Before Chief Laufer I would consistently hear about armed robberies, muggings and gunshots fired and nothing was in the news. I think that not reporting incidents made it easy for city council and city managers to lay off police.
