Letter: creating a brighter future for Coatesville schools

To The Editor,

Letters1We are all saddened by the events  at Coatesville Area School District (CASD). As a proud alum of Coatesville, it is hard to once again hear this great school district’s name being drug through the mud.

Unfortunately, we in the CASD have become accustomed to our superintendents leaving, and the School Board treating us like we are the enemy.

I have taken the full brunt of that hostility from School Board members as a Township Commissioner trying to save Caln Elementary, helping to save the JR ROTC program and working to pass the LERTA which will strengthen our schools and help taxpayers by expanding our tax base through responsible economic growth.

This time, Coatesville Area, we have the power to change how this district moves forward!

There are so many great people who work at and attend Coatesville Schools.  As we have seen in the last few weeks many have been willing to risk everything to stand up for what is right.

At the last School Board meeting I was proud of our community as we finally said ‘enough!’

We will no longer allow our community to be looked down upon, nor will we be treated like the enemy by those elected to serve us.  We will restore our community’s good name.

The Coatesville name should be one of pride, remember that we once had the largest steel mill in the world, we are home to the first female industrialist in the United States, and our region was the powerhouse of Chester County.

We have the power to restore our name.  We need to hold the School Board’s feet to the fire and make sure they dismiss James Ellison as Solicitor; elect people who will represent our community with pride and insist that the search for our next superintendent is a process which includes the community.

As an elected official within CASD, I know that our community deserves better.  We deserve to be proud of our schools, and, like so many in our community, I am dedicated to restoring that pride and moving  forward together into a brighter future.

Joshua Young,

Commissioner,

Caln Township
