City police: Convicted felon resists arrest during traffic stop

32-year-old male has to be physically removed from vehicle, officer says

IMG_2339A routine traffic stop of a vehicle at First Avenue and Wagontown Road on Thursday, Dec. 12, at 1:56 p.m led to multiple charges for a 32-year-old Coatesville resident, Coatesville Police Officer Joe Thompson reported.  An investigation indicated Timothy H. Degezelle was a convicted felon with a firearm, police said. Degezelle resisted arrest and had to be physically removed from the vehicle, police said. He was arraigned and released after posting $500 bail, court records said. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 16, on charges that include resisting arrest and obstruction of justice, records said.

A traffic violation led to the traffic stop of a white sedan in the unit block of South Sixth Avenue on Dec. 10 at 8:56 p.m., Officer Stephen Galletta reported. Officers found an unlabeled prescription bottle with 41 pills, crack cocaine, and pieces of a crack pipe, police said. Zachary Brooks, 21, of West Chester, the driver; and his two passengers, Kevin Butcher, 21, of Coatesville, and Jessica Sarlo, 36, of Kirkwood, were charged with drug offenses and disorderly conduct, court records said.

On Friday, Dec. 13, at 6:47 p.m., police found a figure spray-painted on the train station wall at North Third Avenue and Coates Street, Officer Chris McCarthy reported. The figure, in the shape of a “B” with an eye and the letters “REZ,” has been painted on walls and buildings in Coatesville and Caln Township; the figure sometimes appears with a crown, police said. Anyone with information on this vandalism is asked to call police at 610-384-2300.

While on patrol in the 100 block of East Lincoln Highway on Friday, Dec. 13, at 5:59 p.m., Det./Sgt. Brandon Harris and Cpl. Jonathan Shave observed Zaequon Clossen, 23, of Coatesville, who was wanted on a drug warrant, police said. He was taken into custody without incident and held for video arraignment, police said.

A traffic stop by Police Chief Jack Laufer and Officer Sylvester Earle on Friday, Dec. 13, at 6:52 p.m. in the 1000 block of East Lincoln Highway led to an arrest, police said. Sheila Dunn, 35, a passenger in the vehicle, had a bench warrant and was taken into custody without incident, police said.

Det./Sgt. Brandon Harris and Cpl. Jonathan Shave conducted a traffic stop on Friday, Dec. 13, at 7:01 p.m. in the 1100 block of East Lincoln Highway, police said. Jeremy Smith, 35, of Coatesville, was taken into custody on bench warrants from domestic relations, police said. In a search following his arrest, he was found to be in possession of a small amount of marijuana, a charge that is pending, police said.

Officers Claire Lang and Joe Woulfe responded to a domestic altercation in the 300 block of Charles Street on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 6:47 p.m., police said. Tangelia Clark, 36, and Demarius Johnson, 23, both of Coatesville, showed signs of minor, recent injury, police said. Both were cited for assault and harassment, police said.

On Friday, Dec. 13, at 6:32 pm., Officer David Marquette observed a man slumped against a wall in the 600 block of East Lincoln Highway who was in possession of a partially consumed, 24 oz. alcoholic beverage, police said. Police said James Baron, 50, who is reportedly homeless, was so intoxicated that he was difficult to rouse and then could barely stand on his own. Baron, who repeatedly threatening to kill the officer, was cited for public intoxication and a violation of the open-container law and held overnight, police said.

Jonathan Morrison, 27, of Honey Brook, was cited for retail theft for two incidents of stealing from a city convenience story in the 300 block of West Kings Highway, Cpl. Jonathan Shave said. One instance occurred on Dec. 4 and involved $23.98 worth of merchandise; the other, on Nov. 27, for $4, police said, adding that an investigation is continuing.
